HOLLY & JAMES // HORNINGTON MANOR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY DOM & LIAM
Standing out from the crowd is not an easy thing to do. In a fast-growing generation of talented photographers we feel it is more and more important to really hone your own style and break out from the wedding photography stereotypes and pigeonholing that, particularly in an age where amazing imagery floods everyone’s social media feeds each day, are so easy to become trapped in. We believe that it is essential to listen to your inner voice and take photographs that you passionately believe in, ditching the obvious and clichéd concepts to try and create work that really speaks to you as an artist; creating, not re-creating. Photography is not simply a job but a huge passion for us and it’s that hunger and desire to make every shot count that enables us to look beyond the obvious and really get under the skin of the wedding, not settling for scratching the surface and taking the safe, expected shots. Through observation and empathy, we want to really understand something about the characters gathered there, feel the emotions of the bride and groom and the family and friends surrounding them, truthfully capture the lighting and examine its impact on the atmosphere and, importantly, to explore the personalities of each guest and the little stories between them. We strive to bring colour and depth and a raw ‘feeling’ to our imagery to create our own style of ‘wedding photography without posing’ rather than accept any confines or preconceptions that might traditionally be associated with the documentary wedding photographer. We want to examine the subtle and unusual relationship between the photographer and the unposed subject and we seek to inject personality into every frame and capture life, colour and character through candid composition.
We connected with Holly, James and their wonderful friends and family immediately; welcoming us into their world with open arms the minute we arrived at Hornington Manor and giving us the freedom to just get on and do our thing. Impeccably dressed for the winter festivities, the whole group proved an absolute hoot to be around, with belly laughs in the morning, wicked moves on the dance floor and some of our all-time favourite speeches (the chief groomsman’s exploration of the role of the ‘best-man’ in 21st century Britain proving a particular highlight!), not to mention the impromptu full chorus of “A Partridge and a Pear Tree” complete with flying chairs!
