This year has been fascinating for us, due to our speaking engagements at Keep at Real in Berlin and The Nine Dots Gathering in London along with our own Masterclass in Newcastle we have been spending more time than ever discussing our ideas and putting them down on paper. At York Place it’s normal for us to spend time working on concepts; on the way home in the car after a wedding, our late night 3am chats that started innocently enough in the evening but got carried away(!) but recently, since agreeing to speak at Nine Dots, we have actively spent time all year on ensuring that these ramblings have become an active priority and it has been quite the journey for us.
By putting pen to paper and crystallising some of our ideas, we have honed and defined our style to an even greater degree and had a fair few mini eureka moments on the way! We recently listened to our Nine Dots interview (we were asked by the boys to record an interview about ourselves to promote the awesome gathering) and it was fascinating to listen back to our thoughts back in February and how we were starting to put the pieces together on a fully honed concept that we will be presenting very soon now.
A good example of how we have refined and adapted our style this year is this newly released blog post from Lucy & Tom’s gorgeous Alrewas Hayes wedding in the West Midlands. When it came to picking the photographs we definitely found ourselves focussing in on and giving more credence to slightly different qualities of the images than what we had perhaps concentrated on in the past and it proved an exciting and refreshing process! Mostly though we’ve just loved re-living Lucy & Tom’s fun-filled day, remembering bumping in to one or two familiar faces along with some amazing characters amongst the wedding guests and immersing ourselves in the type of imagery we just love to capture.
What a journey this year has been and what a day this was. We hope you enjoy it.
