“Both of us really loved the natural, non-posed moments you captured. That it’s not too “wedding”. My fiance also pointed out that you don’t rely on the background to make the photos beautiful, which is important to us as we are getting married in the church I grew up in (which isn’t that beautiful) and are celebrating in my family home (which is a very normal semi in Lewisham).”
In the whirlwind of planning it’s easy to become engrossed in the mission to create the most beautiful wedding imaginable, and when it comes to wedding luxuries, for many couples a glamorous, exclusive setting is often top of the list.
But whilst an elaborate setting can certainly help to mark the occasion and wow your guests, to us (whilst we enjoy visiting attractive places as much as anyone), the setting has little, if anything, to do with how beautiful your wedding is.
The right setting can help to create a certain feel to your wedding day, but to us the beauty of a wedding comes from the people who attend it, not the setting it takes place in. Whether you choose to celebrate your marriage in a mountaintop chateau or your own living room we approach every wedding with the same heart & curiosity and the same intrigue about the people around us and the relationships you share. Whatever the background we will utilise it as a character of the day but ultimately our photographs aim to tell stories of people, not places.

That lack of reliance on the more obviously beautiful backgrounds has led to some of our favourite wedding bookings and opportunities to work with some incredible couples like this wonderful pair who married at home in London. That homely feel, that relaxed familiarity with their environment, filled with their loved ones and closest friends made this background anything but ordinary and everything that we love to photograph: family dynamics, laughs, interactions, relaxed personalities fully on show.
On that special day nowhere on earth could be more beautiful than this “normal semi in Lewisham”.
