“Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together” – WOODROW WILSON
Something we are all united in at the moment is missing our friends and family. For us and so many we have never been without seeing them for so long and it has been painful. When we look back in years to come and read this post it will almost be impossible to remember that feeling and longing to reconnect that we all share. Photographs are always important but as time passes they become truly priceless. The memories that we hold dear become wrapped within the photographs until it is impossible to not think of the memory through the photograph.
Bex and Dave, the gorgeous couple at the centre of these photographs are my friends (in fact they were also at my own wedding back in 2012 – and an amazing part of it they were too!) and, rather than photographer I was originally part of the guest list. I’ve always told my friends that I’d like to experience their wedding without a lens between us, but when they asked my advice on finding a photographer and described “someone who shoots documentary with a sense of humour, captures small intimate and fun moments in a street style” then it was pretty much impossible not to want to photograph the wedding!
The wedding was in Scotland in the most chilled-out huge venue, Comrie Croft Courtyard, with the couples’ many theatre and event technician friends helping to enhance the space further with lighting, sound and fantastic decorations (indeed seeing a guest-based tech crew move an outdoor ceremony indoors in 3 minutes flat at the last possible second as the weather changed was quite something to behold!) and it was just an incredible occasion to photograph and be a part of the celebrations over two wonderful days surrounded by friends both old and new.
From the amazing landscapes, getting dressed in the tipis, the courtyard full of bubbles and drinks aplenty to the book swap library and the biggest, most jubilant ceilidh; the entire two days were a photographic dream. We always say that the photographs we take are not just the couple’s memories, they’re our memories too – and with Dave & Bex’s wedding that really couldn’t be more true.
These are just a few of our favourites looking back on a special time spent with friends.
