LUCIE & TOM // HAMBLEDON VINEYARD WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY DOM & LIAM
Can anyone actually believe it’s the end of November?! What a year it has been and we are getting to that point where we start to reflect back on the last 365 days, talk about everything that has happened, look through our photos and relive the incredible year that was 2017.
Central to those reflections at the moment is NineDots; a London-based 3-day international wedding photography conference from where we have just returned after delivering a main-stage talk covering lots of our thoughts and ideas about photography and the documentary genre in particular. It was an incredible few days sharing and exchanging ideas with an absolutely fantastic bunch of people and it was a privilege to be part of an unbelievable line-up of speakers. Our personal highlight was the Q&A, sitting alongside all the other speakers and engaging in some lively debate and having so much fun in the process! Aside from the overload of inspiration on offer it was amazing to catch up with old friends and make some new ones over a game of ping pong or a quick drink with so many open, like-minded and friendly people. We’ve definitely forged some life-long friendships over those 3 days and have been absolutely humbled by the response to our talk and to some of the conversations we’ve had.
That educational aspect has been a huge part of our year – through all of our speaking engagements during 2017 we’ve found a new real love for teaching and sharing ideas; not only is it incredible to receive such wonderful messages from so many peers and hear about how some of our ideas have already started to help them (thank you everyone we have appreciated it so much!) but also teaching and going through the process of putting these talks and masterclasses together has really helped to clarify our own thoughts and open up new areas of focus within our own photography. We are so excited to start 2018 and keep on developing these concepts; the “truths” that we have found are only just the beginning for us, we have far, far more to give.
But right now, lets get back to what it’s all about, the wedding! When Lucie and Tom, who are TV documentary makers (and incredibly talented they are too!) dropped us an email what caught our eye immediately was a single sentence: “we love your framing of candid images”. For us, composition is the life-blood of an image and reading about how important the composition was to them and how it made them connect with the image we knew immediately that we were all most definitely on the same page when it comes to photography and couldn’t wait to be a part of their day… it certainly didn’t disappoint!
Their beautiful wedding took place in Hampshire in (perhaps unsurprisingly given this awesome pair’s background) the most incredibly picturesque of settings: Hambledon Vineyard. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was lively and the couple’s artistic flair (particularly the outdoor ‘living room’ setup in the middle of the vines) made for some intriguing scenes and plenty of scope for some playful compositions! We simply couldn’t have asked for a better setting or a nicer group to work with and as for Lucie & Tom, you guys took it to another level.
Here are a few of our faves…
