WHY WE LOVE SHOOTING WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY AT LONDON’S MORDEN HALL

There’s plenty to love about Morden Hall from its amazing in-house catering to its gorgeous decoration and amazing scope for a grand bridal entrance. From a wedding photographers and videographers point of view though it’s really the relaxed atmosphere and huge outdoor space that gets us so excited to shoot here.

London is such a loud, bustling city that finding a space that feels genuinely peaceful is no easy feat. Now don’t get us wrong, sometimes that busy London vibe works perfectly for a city wedding (and can be great for our street wedding photography style!) but, for lots of couples, a really relaxed feel might be more the atmosphere that you want to set.
“That relaxed feel is going to equate to happy guests expressing their personalities”
Morden Hall hugely shines in this regard. Surrounded by parkland and featuring a pond area teeming with wildlife this is the kind of quiet countryside setting you’d normally be heading well out of London to find! It’s the kind of place you’d want to go for a picnic, a place to get away from it all, a place where you can’t help but feel just a little more relaxed. And for a documentary wedding photographer or videographer that relaxed feel is going to equate to happy guests expressing their personalities – exactly what we reportage style wedding photographers love to capture! The venue is easy to get to, has on-site parking and has gorgeous licensed ceremony, drinks reception and dinner spaces onsite, again accentuating that relaxed feel. These are just some of the many reasons we love this fantastic London venue!

LET'S TALK
ABOUT THE VENUE – MORDEN HALL, LONDON
Morden Hall is the focal point of the 125 acre National Trust Morden Hall Park – not a bad setting for a wedding venue! The Hall itself is an elegant 18th-century country house and has a sort of understated grandeur to it – full of history yet somehow modern feeling, simple but highly sophisticated. The result is a venue that’s sure to impress your guests yet leaves you free to impart your own style and set whatever kind of mood you want to create – the ideal flexible backdrop to your day and perfect for some amazing documentary wedding photographs!

The venue offers a gorgeous bridal suite (on the upper floors away from prying eyes) for your morning preparations from which you can descend the grand sweeping staircase to make your grand entrance for a ceremony of up to 120 guests in the beautiful Willow Suite. This is the largest room and sits at the heart of the building with a lovely outlook to the grounds. It’s also where the doors can be opened immediately after your ceremony for your guests to spill straight out onto the lawn for an outdoor drinks reception (though there’s plenty of space indoors if the weather is less than permitting!

Alternatively, for smaller ceremonies (or receptions/breakout spaces!), there’s also the Oak Suite (also another handy space for the boys to get ready if you want to keep everything in-house!)

For the wedding breakfast or even larger ceremonies, there’s another fantastic space and probably the most impressive in the building – the Mulberry Room with capacity for 150 guests. Either the Mulberry Room or Willow Suite can also be transformed to the perfect space to dance the night away!

The team, facilities and catering at the venue are all top-notch and there to ensure your day runs absolutely seamlessly, leaving you free to maintain that relaxed vibe and just enjoy your day. Whatever style of wedding you want to create Morden Hall has the setting, facilities and versatility to match your ambitions.
We absolutely love the work of Dom & Liam. They photographed our wedding from start to finish at Morden Hall (London) in July this year. We have had so many comments on our wedding photos – people just absolutely love the style. They managed to capture all the happiness, joy and laughter of the entire day. Not only that but they made us and all our guests feel so comfortable – they literally blended in and worked their magic. We highly recommend their work – you won’t regret booking them!
CHOOSING A VENUE - LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
Let’s face it, it’s pretty easy to get carried away when searching for your perfect wedding venue.

Finding the right venue is incredibly important – you want to find somewhere that fits the tone that you want to create, whether that’s finding a dream castle fit for a Princess or a super-laid back London Gastro-Pub. The setting you choose is likely going to influence everything from the level of formality to the underlying theme of the wedding and it’s inevitably going to be one of the biggest decisions you make in planning your wedding.

But whilst following your heart (and of course your budget!) is ultimately going to make the decision for you, the slightly less exciting but ultimately important third part to the decision probably should be one of practicality.

Whilst we certainly wouldn’t recommend choosing your venue purely for practical reasons (you definitely should get married in a place that holds a special place in your heart if you can!), in a tie-break situation often the general location is going to make a huge difference, particularly when guests are coming from far and wide.

As wedding photographers and videographers we travel to very different venues all over the world and some are definitely more easy to reach than others. The last thing you want is any stress on your wedding day and so it’s often worth thinking about how people are actually going to get there.
"With its parkland setting, standing in the garden at Morden Hall you could easily be in the middle of the Yorkshire countryside, and yet you're still very much in London."
Many a time we’ve photographed and filmed marriages at rural venues where guests from abroad have had no choice but to fly in for the wedding the same day and have, through delays, ended up missing the ceremony, causing huge stress to the bride and groom. Plenty of your guests might not drive or own a car and so it’s useful to think about how anyone can get there by public transport. Or, if you’re moving between different venues on the day for the ceremony and reception, just how much time are you going to spend on the road in between and what happens if there’s a traffic jam? If you’re planning a wild party into the early hours are there actually enough hotels nearby that people can stay late without facing a nightmare taxi ride afterwards?

Each venue in our UK wedding venue guide (crafted by our expert photographers and videographers) features a little bit of info to help you think about these factors – is there parking on site? How easily can you get there by rail? Where’s the nearest airport? Thinking about these small practical elements can be key in helping you to choose the perfect venue for a spectacular, stress-free wedding day.

Happily for London wedding venues the nearest airport or tube station is rarely far away and this is an area where venues like Morden Hall score incredibly highly! With its parkland setting, standing in the garden at Morden Hall you could easily be in the middle of the Yorkshire countryside, and yet you’re still very much in London. With three international airports in close proximity, a tube station just 4 minutes walk away and parking on-site it ticks every box, from travel and location to setting, to wet-weather plans and even the ability to hold both ceremony and reception in one single location.

In this wedding photographers opinion London’s Morden Hall would be an absolutely incredible venue for a wedding wherever it happened to be, but with location and practicality taken into account it’s simply hard to beat.
