The Year That Was 2018
The Best of Wedding Photography
It’s quite incredible to us to think that it is now over twelve years since we started York Place Studios and we are honestly more excited now about our work then we have ever been. We loved photography when we started back in 2006 but we could never have imagined how much that love would grow and how big a part of our lives it would become. More than a decade in and every time we pick up the camera we are still intoxicated by the thrill of bringing stories and images together in camera and still pushing ourselves harder than ever to capture real moments and important memories in the most interesting, creative ways that we can.
Part of the process of becoming better photographers has for us always been our (fairly exhaustive) discussions, during which we analyse our images, our ideas about photography, the things we want to achieve and the ways we can develop our work. With these conversations so important to what we do (and with this one focussing not just on the last year but the last 12!) we thought as documentarians it was important to document these too. Ultimately the recordings of the conversation we had whilst putting together this year’s ‘Best Of’ collection inspired a little video about our motivations behind the images and our wider objectives over 12 years.
So check out the blog post to see (some of) our favourite images of the year and the video to see and hear a little about some of our favourites of all time. We hope you enjoy them both.
