Incredible work (with no flash) in the low light of an evening event in late December, in an underground venue. The photos themselves are proper works of art, and everyone looks their best self – natural, relaxed and ‘real’ – exactly what we were hoping for. A genuine record of the event that really does merit repeat viewings. Multiple guests mentioned not even noticing photos being taken, but they are also genuinely lovely people to have around. The only downside is you’ll wish you could have them photograph every other life event! The very best thing we spent money on, and unhesitatingly recommended.”
When Jane and Chris first got in touch, they had an optimistic mantra for their celebration: “Relaxed and informal, it’s not a wedding.” Having been together for almost twenty years, they were determined to avoid the performance of a traditional wedding reception. Add in a natural aversion to cameras and a timeline that meant doing almost the entire thing in the dark, and it was a scenario that perfectly suited our approach. Our goal is always to find the beauty in the real moments and capture honest, unposed interactions, and a day packed with neon, nostalgia, and genuine human connection gave us the perfect canvas to do just that.
Documenting the Flow of a Late Ceremony
For this celebration, there was no traditional morning getting-ready coverage; our story began right at the heart of the action at Old Marylebone Town Hall. With a late 4pm ceremony on the horizon, the winter afternoon light had already slipped away, creating a beautifully atmospheric arrival. Jane and Chris walked into the majestic, wood-panelled Westminster Room together, instantly setting a tone of equal partnership. The service was beautifully intimate, marked by two personal readings and the emotional, unprompted tears Jane had predicted, all while we quietly framed the reactions of the 70 guests in attendance.
The Reception Energy: Neon, Bowling, and a Subterranean Playground
As the celebration shifted gear, the journey itself became part of the story. Everyone hopped onto the Tube together, transforming the commute across London into a brilliant, high-energy transition between the day’s two acts. Arriving at Bloomsbury Lanes, the Kingpin Suite plunged the evening into a wonderfully chaotic entertainment playground.
The traditional sit-down dinner was traded for a relaxed buffet where people could graze at leisure, while the standard dance floor made way for intense ping-pong rallies, bowling strikes, air hockey matches, and a kids’ treasure hunt. For anyone who avoids the camera, the freedom of an unposed party like this is a dream. It allows us to catch people at their absolute best-completely unaware of the lens, laughing, competing, and living the day entirely in the moment under the vibrant glow of the neon lights.
