SRI LANKA STREET PHOTOGRAPHY

Fujifilm Superia (filmisnotdead)

When we started out on our photographic journey all those years ago we’d spend hours in the darkroom developing prints and feeling the excitement of an image slowly appearing in front of us; an image that we’d captured and, in the absence of the instant playback of a digital screen, almost forgotten about until this moment. There’s a certain magic to shooting on real film, a certain beauty and innocence to the imagery that is difficult to beat and peacefulness to the idea that you can’t just keep shooting until every ‘imperfection’ is ironed out; an imperfection that so often turns out to be the element that brings truth and feeling to an image.

After partnering with Digitalab earlier this year and seeing the phenomenal work they do in developing, scanning and printing film we decided it was time to go back to our roots and see what we could produce. So for our trip to Sri Lanka, we picked up not just our digital Fuji X-Pro2’s but also our rather beautiful Leica M-P and plenty of rolls of Fujifilm Superia 200 Film kindly sponsored by Digitalab.

Whilst the majority of the trip was spent shooting digitally it was so exciting to pick up the film camera again and hear that old familiar click and winding of film, not to mention the absolute joy of receiving the beautiful scans back from the team at Digitalab. Here are just a few that we were excited to share; I have a feeling there will be many more film images in our future.

Thanks again to our amazing sponsors Digitalab, we hope you enjoy the images.
