ANNA & BEN // NORTHBROOK PARK WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY DOM & LIAM
When asked about our work we speak often of the importance of the unique characters of a wedding. We believe firmly that no two weddings should ever look the same even if, as in the case of the lovely Anna and Ben, many of the people around you may have been present on another occasion. On this particular day four of our former brides and grooms were attending along with so many friends and family that we had bumped into before that by now we just felt like part of the gang, but (whilst this group are always full of amazing laughs and moments!) for us when we talk about characters we don’t always just mean people…
One of the key characters of any wedding or indeed any time we pick up the camera is the light around us and whether harsh, dappled, golden or dull we love to explore its properties and harness its power to change the feel of a moment and the shape, mood and value of an image. Where many photographers attempt to take direct control of the light around them using flash or by introducing foreign light sources we treat the available light as a character of that day as significant as the dress, the venue, even the people around us. We love nothing more than to create an image where the placement of light and shadow is as important as the positioning of the central subjects and where the image simply wouldn’t work without it – a technique we use all the time in our street photography and one we love to introduce to weddings. But whatever the conditions of the day we believe that the available light plays a huge part that should be as celebrated as any other character. Light is not just the basic means to take a photograph, it is the key to illuminating a memory.
For Ben and Anna’s gorgeous Northbrook Park wedding the changing February light and intermittent cloud cover created a palette of colour and texture that proved an exciting canvas for us to explore, surrounded by friends and the warmth of an amazing group of people. Anna and Ben (and the whole forcefield) we love you guys and we were honoured and touched to be mentioned in Ben’s speech with those beautiful words, it meant the world.
Here’s a little sample of some of our favourite images of the day.
