One of the most common things we hear from couples and photographers alike is, “I just hope it doesn’t rain on the wedding day.”
We understand. It’s natural to dream of perfect weather, to imagine sunshine and blue skies. But over the years, we’ve learned to see rain not as a spoiler, but as an opportunity. And we’d love to help reframe the way we all think about weather on a wedding day.
When we go out shooting street photography, we have the luxury of choosing when to shoot – we can wait for golden light or dodge the downpours entirely. But we never wanted to restrict ourselves like that. Being able to create images in any conditions has always felt essential to us. It’s not only good practice; it’s the very reason we can stay creative and adaptable at weddings, whatever the weather throws at us.
What we discovered on the streets is that rain changes things. People move differently, react differently—it draws out quirks and unexpected moments. So when we’re lucky enough to be photographing an outdoor wedding in the rain, we can lean into those same techniques. The weather becomes a source of humour, juxtaposition, shared experience… even a touch of theatre. These aren’t the kinds of photographs you can get on a bright, cloudless day. They’re something rarer—and to us, often even more magical.
That’s how we see the weather: not as a hurdle, but as a defining part of the story. The wind, the light, the rain—these are key characters of the day. The photos we take in those conditions could only exist because of them.
So thank you to Lucy and Matt for trusting us to capture their day exactly as it was: full of colour, character, energy, and yes—rain.
Embrace the day, in all its truth.
