The Sub-plots of Family

Navigating the hidden layers and gravitational pull of family connection.

A wedding is a living, breathing landscape of human connection; a day where the “big moments” are often defined by the small, quiet interactions happening in the margins. At the Riverside Marquee in Bray, our goal wasn’t just to record a schedule, but to navigate the rich sub-plots and unscripted energy that make Vicky & Mike’s family story so unique.

The Narrative: Capturing the Unscheduled Beats

It is so important to us that we capture photographs that actually matter. We are constantly hunting for those seemingly insignificant moments – the unscheduled beats, the humour, and the layered, characterful frames that define the “why” of a wedding day. These are the moments that can’t be planned or predicted, only anticipated.

With Vicky and Mike, it was clear from the start that family was the gravitational pull of the entire celebration. We wanted to showcase that connection through a documentary lens: from the morning light during preparations to their gorgeous twins getting ready with their grandparents. Watching the entire family flow down the aisle together at the end of the ceremony was a masterclass in authentic, unposed joy.

The Venue: Riverside Marquee

The Riverside Marquee in Bray provided an incredible canvas for this energy. The expansive gardens allowed the day to unfold naturally, giving us the space to frame the children playing frisbee or the quiet, atmospheric moments by the water. The day concluded with one final, beautiful “beat” – a photograph celebrating Vicky and Mike’s new baby-to-be; a tiny piece of future history captured in the present.

The York Place Approach

This style of documentary wedding photography is rooted in listening and observing rather than directing or choreographing. We believe that when you stop trying to control the situation, you allow the “truth” of the day to surface. For us, a photograph is a success when it doesn’t just show you who was there, but lets you feel the pulse and the friction of the people you love most.

Let’s Capture Your History

Your wedding isn’t a performance or a photoshoot; it’s a rare collision of the people you love most. We’re here to ensure you don’t just remember what the day looked like, but exactly how the energy felt. If you value the "unscheduled beats" and the real, unscripted sub-plots of your own family story, we’d love to be there to frame them.
