“We love the way you captured the day, including views we couldn’t have had otherwise, such as the lower exposure shots indoors, all the little moments that we didn’t notice. What a totally creative and comprehensive document of the day. We’re so happy you could be our photographers. Can’t wait to get some of these on the walls.”
As photographers it is easy to forget on a wedding day that not only are you the “eyes” for the day, you are the “creative eyes” – your concepts, your perspective, the way that you individually see the world is how the couple will, from this point on, re-live their day. You are not just providing a recording of an event but your unique take upon it. You will show them things that not only did they not have the time to see but also that they cannot see; your choice of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, lens, where you stand, what you choose to point the camera at, the height you chose to take it at, the connections that you make within the frame. Each of these tiny individual choices will define the images and completely change what your couple ultimately get to see and eventually, in years to come, what they remember.
Therefore it is so important that couples looking to find a wedding photographer truly love the “eye” of their wedding photographer and find something that resonates with them, whatever that happens to be. A photographer will see the world in a particular way and once they have honed their style and mastered their aesthetic those instincts will naturally come through at every wedding they shoot, no matter what. That doesn’t mean that shots are repeated – techniques vary and continuous invention is key – but the way a photographer sees; what they naturally choose to shine a light on and where they find beauty in the world, those things never change and will always come through. So when both photographer and couple share the same vision, that is when real magic can happen and when everyone can be truly confident of the results.
We were so happy that this incredible, creative couple connected with our vision and that we could share with them a day so uniquely them through a lens that is uniquely ours.
